If you look over to at the top of my blog page you’ll notice a little change. At the top of the sidebar is a little yellow PayPal button readers can use to donate to CascadeTubes. There is also one at the base of the home page. And I thought that after all these years, a little explanation was in order.
You see, I regularly get asked about the website and why I maintain it, and the answer is always the same, I enjoy it. I also routinely have people tell me I should start selling amps, or kits, or PWBs, etc. And while I have considered it, I’m not sure I want to embark on full fledged business right now. Additionally, I am a little trepidatious that the kind of daily commitment that a business would entail could destroy the enjoyment and just make it another job.
So I decided to go half way. I’m still not going to sell anything nor charge for advice or designing circuits. But I am making it possible for people, on a purely voluntary (and anonymous) basis, to make some small donation to the cause if they feel it’s appropriate. Hopefully enough people will donate something to help offset some of the cost of prototyping and supplies as I move forward into retirement. Just so that I can continue doing what I truly enjoy so much.
I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Well, as of the middle of November (just about 4-1/2 months in) I have received a single $1 donation. Maybe this was an ill conceived notion to begin with. Oh well, live and learn.
