Well, the new version of the 6CY7 amp is coming together. The wood for the amp has gone from a raw 11″ x 58″ plank of Zebra Wood {Microberlinia brazzavillensis} into a finished amplifier chassis complete with four coats of Tru-Oil finish. I think it looks pretty good.
And now that the wooden part of the chassis is complete, it’s time to start metal finishing. So today I put a coat of self etching primer on all the metal pieces to be painted. Tomorrow, after the primer has set up and hardened, I’ll do some light sanding and apply the first coat of the final color.
It seems a little weird that it’s taken me almost three weeks to get this far. In my head, it’s only been a few days. But I first posted here about this chassis back on June 13th. And the schematic design work was even earlier.
Oh well, with any luck I’ll get a few coats of the final color on over the weekend. Then I’ll let the paint cure for a week or so before starting to mount components. Since the amp is so simple, I think that the actually wiring should go fairly quickly.
More to come soon.
Ok Matt.
Is like a 300B by Vinylsavor.
Nice wood Matt !!!
I am in the process of doing something similar to your 6EM7
A 2A3 amplifier with some nice wood and copper plate on top.
Saludos .

I can’t wait to see it. Send me a picture when it’s ready.
