It looks like the weather has finally broken here at CascadeTubes and spring has arrived. Yesterday, the 6AS7 SET chassis got its first coat of oil. The purple heart used for this chassis is definitely much deeper in tone than that used on the The 6DJ8 Headphone Amp.
This is just the first finish coat of what will probably be four or five, but it really begins to show the character of the wood.
And for those with sharp eyes, yes, the chassis is upside down in this picture. I screwed the temporary standoffs into the top instead of the bottom. Oops!
The paint on the aluminum back and bottom is still giving me issues, but the copper is starting to age nicely as well. There should be significant enough progress in the next week or so that I can begin the actual amplifier construction.
Till then, questions and comments are welcome.
Update 4:14 PDT: The second coat of oil just went on the chassis. It’s looking very rich.
Lovely piece of wood Matt. I am not aware if any wood of that colour is available locally but definitely would use it if I found some. Will match the rest of the colour scheme well in my eyes.
This bottom should be a great match to the top you designed in December. Thanks for the update!
