I managed to make good progress on the assembly of the 6AS7 SET today. In addition to getting all the hardware and iron mounted in the chassis and on the top plate, I’ve actually started wiring.
The Edcor Blue (technically Gentian Blue, RAL 5010) makes a nice contrast with the patina of the aged copper top plate. Here’s how it looks.
With the rich color of the base it really comes together. Here’s the top plate from the back side showing all the mounted hardware.
It looks a little messy at the moment but that will really get cleaned up as the initial wiring is completed. I’ve also made good use of the identification stickers from Edcor. This way there’s no question about what transformers I’ve used in the build. I still have to find a place to put the identifier for the output transformers.
In addition to the top plate, the ring frame of the chassis has progressed as well. Here’s the current state of the chassis wiring.
Here you can see that I’ve mounted the two power stage filter chokes. I’ve also wired in the RCA input jacks to the volume control. The IEC connector, fuse holder, and power switch are wired and ready for connection to the power transformer supply. I think I’m also going to add a dedicated twisted pair to the indicator light as well.
And for those who are interested, I’ve also started wiring the iron to the top plate hardware. Here is the wiring for the power transformer from the back side.
This is much better than it looks in the picture above. This is the stage where I finally begin to feel like I’m making progress. With luck, I’ll be able to get the remainder of the wiring done this week. Then it will be time to begin testing.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
From the last 2 posts both the “look” and the technical aspects are coming together very well. That combined with your own design must give you a sense of accomplishment.
