I first announced this SET on September 18th, 2020. It’s only taken me about 19 months to get to this point. To be fair, that 19 months was fairly eventful, including both my retirement and much of the COVID madness. But tomorrow, the slow methodical process of testing can finally begin.
And just in case anyone doesn’t believe me, here is a picture of the amp from the underside showing all the wiring and components (except for the power supply dropping resistor).
This includes everything required to begin testing. In fairness, I think I’ll have to put together a cradle tomorrow morning for operating the amp upside down. But that shouldn’t take long.
First step is a complete check of the wiring against the schematic and against the tube pinout diagrams. This is just to ensure that I haven’t made any obvious mistakes. Then comes first power to the unit with no tubes involved. This will check the power transformer operation and all the filament supplies.
I am very excited to get the testing phase of this amp underway.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
Has come together very well. I like your solution to laying out the components so as not to crowd the 6as7 socket too much. I am looking forward to the testing which I am keen to do on mine as well though I don’t yet have all the equipment I need I suspect. Congratulations on your blog which these days almost needs daily checking to keep up.
