I got some time today to make grain decisions and cut some basic joinery. It finally feels like I’m making progress.
My apologies to anyone that thought I might be asking for opinions on the grain layout. That was the my plan based on Dave K’s input yesterday. However, as I looked at the pieces this morning, it just became obvious that there was only one set of choices I really liked. So I decided to just move forward.
Here are the chassis pieces just set together after I cut all the joints. First the front view.
Although some of the central grain will be removed for openings, I think the surrounding grain patterns will work well. And here is the back.
There are two one inch tall openings in the back, one for signal jacks, and one for the power connections. This will leave a substantial portion of the grain pattern intact. Here are left and right profile shots showing the side panel grain and how the side patterns meet the grain in the front panel at the corners.
Overall I’m very happy with this arrangement. I think the grain patterns play well with the overall chassis and I think the oil finish will really bring that grain pattern to life.
As I get time over the next few days, I’ll layout and cut all the openings. After that it will be time for glue up and finishing. I think this unit is going to look really good in my office.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
