New Preamp is Moving Forward

I’ve finally completed the finishing of the bubinga chassis. It has four coats of hand rubbed oil finish. It really makes the wood grain stand out.

This image is not the best quality (just a quick snap in my office) but it does give a sense of what the finished product will look like.

Now my efforts bifurcate into two separate streams. First I need to start worrying about getting the paint on the top plate and the two panels for the back. Second, in parallel I’m going to start with electronic assembly.

It occurred to me that I can actually wire up the entire central assembly with the tubes and run it through functional testing before I even install it into the unit. I like this idea because it means the most of the electrical checkout will take place on my workbench just working with the one assembly. This should make things easier if any troubleshooting is required.

This is what the back of that assembly looks like right now.

Soon it will be covered with the active electronics for this project.

As always, questions and comments are welcome.

Update

This afternoon I got the primer on the three remaining metal pieces which need to be painted.

Tomorrow begins the saga of trying to get a decent paint job on these pieces. I’ll definitely be using my charge control trick when applying the paint. I’ll also be giving at least 72 hours between coats at the absolute minimum. Wish me luck.
