I’ve finished modifications to my test jig to allow the testing of the 6BQ5/EL84. It’s really a shame that so few other 9-pin power pentodes use the 9CV pinout. The 6CW5/EL86 is the only other really common one.
For those who are curious, here is how it looks.
Yes I had to put it on the side of the jig. There was really no good place to put it on top with all the other stuff.
I also think this may be my last modification to the particular jig. I’m simply running out of places for the wiring inside as well.
I suppose I could put another socket on the side opposite the EL84 socket. But that would really result in a bird’s nest of wires in there.
I’m waiting for some terminal strips before I can prototype my power supply with the XPWR011 transformer. So I’ll have to see which happens first, the EL84 SE-UL optimization or the prototype power supply.
