There is truly nothing like the smell of a freshly wound transformer.
While I’ve been currently working on the 807 triode strapped amplifier, I have not forgotten the KT88 triode amplifier I’ve talked about before. In fact, today a major item showed up to help me begin some work on that amp in the background.
This is the big 900vct XPWR077 power transformer which should allow my power supply to achieve the required 494V at load required by that design. And since the output transformers for this amp showed up back in December, I now have all the iron and tubes for two complete amplifiers. I would also like to point out that this was a custom wind by Edcor (I can’t imagine that they sell enough of these to keep any in stock). However they still managed to get it to my front door just three weeks after I ordered it. It even has that signature “new transformer” smell. I love those guys at Edcor.
Something else that showed up yesterday was a set of capacitors for the KT88 power supply which will be used to build high voltage capacitor banks for B+ filtering. I’ll be discussing that aspect of the supply as my work on the power supply progresses.
I’m definitely working on the 807 amplifier first, but the big KT88 triode mode amp will be following along right behind.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
Looking forward to the KT88 Build. Props to Edcor for a custom wind in the same lead time as the normal orders.
