The weather has finally returned to normal here and I got to spend a little time in my shop today. I decided that I wanted to be able to finish the base of the SET and my new triode test jig at the same time. So I needed to get going on the test jig base.
As luck would have it, last week I found a nice little lacewood board (about 4″ x 36″) in my stash. I think it’s been sitting under a stack of other wood for a while because I had forgotten about it. I sized the stock a few days ago when it was colder in my shop. I had to stop after just a little while because my hands got so cold. Here’s how far I got.
Today the shop was warmer so I got to size the stock and fit all the joints. Here is the dry fit with the top plate laid in the recess.
I think this little test jig is going to be a handsome piece of equipment. I know it will be a useful one once finished.
As soon as I can get the shop temperature consistently above 50°F (10°C) I’ll get the chassis glued up and ready for finish. Then I can get both the SET chassis and the test jig chassis finished so that I can start assembly work on both units.
More to come soon. As always, questions and comments are welcome.
That is pretty enough that people would think it was an amp and not a jig!
Very professional looking!!!
Definitely the way to go in the future.
